What separates you from the countless other deck and fence companies?

Professionalism
Any carpenter can tell you they have twenty years experience when it comes to building decks or fences. While that is certainly an important asset, what most times gets overlooked is the level of professionalism. This is where customers can get into an unfortunate situation where communication is lacking, projects are delayed, expectations are misaligned, etc.

Kerry spent ten years working in a professional capacity alongside new home builders in the City of Ottawa. Coordinating with construction vice presidents and construction managers for most major new home builders such as Minto, Mattamy, EQ Homes, Caivan, Tartan, etc. Kerry has designed and implemented decks, railings and columns for these builders to provide for their customers. Kerry’s knowledge of the OBC (Ontario Building Code) is extensive, having spent a considerable amount of time ensuring the projects he designed would not cause issues with engineers or inspectors, while meeting the vision of the architects involved.

High Standards
There are many different ways to build a deck or a fence, and the average customer is not going to notice the subtle differences. What we aim to do is educate our customers so they can appreciate and understand the need for certain techniques and products in regards to their project.

We provide the same high quality products that are currently being used in most new home construction. Kerry’s experience has given him insight into design trends and materials that have been trusted to please new home owners in the Ottawa area over the last twenty years.

Mjolnir Construction is not in the business of mass production. We are a small business that provides custom quality over quantity.

Customer Experience
It becomes clear the moment you contact us for an estimate that we value your business. Phone calls and emails requesting estimates are typically responded to within 24hrs as we schedule a date and time that best suits you for an on site visit to discuss details and design. Estimates are returned promptly, usually within a few days of the site visit, with detailed information on the products used and warranty information. We attempt to include as much detail in our estimates so that we can paint a clear picture of what you can expect when the job is complete. It is important to us to provide a cost estimate that reflects the actual cost, while not adding on extra work charges at the end of the project.

Communication is key as we schedule the work to be done, informing you of any changes in the start date, material deliveries, etc. We promise to let you know as accurately as possible when we will be arriving on site to begin work. This means emails or phone calls informing you of our current schedule as we move closer to your projected start date. We also promise not to show up unannounced to begin work, and also to not have any material deliveries made without your prior knowledge.

The work completed is reviewed at the end of the project, where it is encouraged to ask questions and give feedback. We will happily answer all questions in regards to how or why something was done. We want your project, from estimate to final payment, to be an enjoyable and informative experience leaving you with a sense of assurance that you had chosen the right company for the job.

What does Mjolnir mean, and why did you choose such a peculiar name?

In Norse mythology, Mjolnir is the hammer of Thor, the Norse god associated with thunder. Our name is a play on the fact that Mjolnir is a hammer and that only someone worthy of it is able to use it, just as within our company.

There are many construction companies in the City of Ottawa that have very similar names, and we wanted to separate us from them.

Alright sure, but how do you pronounce it?

Mjolnir is said like this, muh-yol-nir.

muh – is not said fully, rather it is glanced over like when you say “miao” (cat purring sound). “Miao” is said with a slight muh at the start which is how Mjolnir is supposed to be said.
Yol – is said slightly like you’d say “y’all”, but then with an o instead of an a.
Nir – is said like the word near.
